Common Questions

"I'm not fit enough to start."

This is the #1 thing we hear — and it's exactly backwards. Every workout scales to your ability, so you start where you are today. Getting fit is the point, not the prerequisite.

What happens at my first class?

A coach learns your goals and any injuries, walks you through the movements, and guides you through a real, scaled workout alongside the class. You're never thrown in blind.

Do I need to sign up ahead of time?

Yes — classes are reserved and checked in through our member app, so your coach knows you're coming and always saves you a spot. We'll get you set up on day one.

How is this different from a regular gym?

You're never on your own. Every class is coach-led with a plan, the workouts change daily, and a community keeps you accountable — that's what makes results actually happen.

What should I bring?

Athletic clothes you can move in, a water bottle, and an open mind. That's it — we'll take care of the rest.

Is there a beginner on-ramp?

Your Free Intro Class is the on-ramp. From there, coaches scale every class to meet you where you are and progress you safely — no separate program to finish first.

The 40|90 Challenge

Why 40? Why 90?

Because they aren’t numbers we made up. Both come from research on how habits actually form — and on what separates the people still training a year from now from the people who aren’t.

66days, not 21

The habit takes longer than you’ve been told

You’ve heard it takes 21 days to build a habit. It doesn’t — that number came from a 1960s book about plastic-surgery patients, not from research.

When researchers at University College London actually measured it, the average was 66 days before a new behaviour felt automatic — and for some people it took as long as 254. The harder the behaviour, the longer the runway. Training is a hard behaviour.

Ninety days is built to carry you past that line, not up to it.

Lally et al., European Journal of Social Psychology, 2010
a week

Three a week is where it changes

Forty classes across 90 days works out to about three a week. That isn’t a coincidence either.

Retention research across the fitness industry keeps landing on the same threshold: people who train roughly three times a week in their first month are far more likely to still be training a year later than those who come sporadically. Show up once a week and the odds turn against you fast.

After the first few months, how often you come matters far less. The early window is the one that decides it.

What the habit is actually for

CrossFit’s goal isn’t to make you good at CrossFit. It’s general physical preparedness — broad, general, inclusive fitness. Not specialised. Not narrow. Capable across whatever gets asked of you.

Coach Greg Glassman described the target as the “unknown and the unknowable.” Life doesn’t send a calendar invite before it demands something physical of you. The suitcase in the overhead bin. The move you offered to help with. The grandchild who wants to be lifted. The patch of ice.

You can’t train for those specifically, because you don’t know which one is coming. You can only be ready — and readiness isn’t built in a month, or by showing up when you feel like it. It’s built by turning training into something you simply do.

That’s what the 40|90 is for. Forty classes to build the habit. The habit is what keeps you ready for anything.
